SYDNEY TEA CLUB – WUYI ROCK TEAS: THE MYSTERY OF CHARCOAL BAKED TEAS (10-12pm, SUN 29TH OCT 2023)

Many people have heard about Oolong teas but do not really know how to define their taste profiles. Oolong Teas are the most complicated teas in terms of taste complexity due to their making methods.

This tea session will take you to a journey to explore one particular type of oolong from Wuyi Mountains in Fujian province of China: rock teas. These rare teas are mostly grown naturally in the valleys from rocky soil which gives it a deep and complex flavour. One of the key process of rock teas is to bake at charcoal, usually above 20 hours, this process makes the strong and masculine style of the teas. There are so far 300+ tea varieties found in Wuyi mountains

In this tea club we will be tasting 6 types of rock teas side by side. Through out the tasting we could explore the skills and craftsmanship that the tea makers have been refined and passed down from generations ago.
